How Can We Help?

Fingerprint cards get rejected more often than most people expect. Smudged ridges, prints rolled too lightly, or a card filled out incorrectly can send an application back and set a license, a job offer or a background check back by weeks. Signed and Sorted provides both Live Scan electronic fingerprinting and careful ink fingerprinting on standard FD-258 cards, for clients nationwide. We come to you at home, at your office or on site for a whole team, and coordinate fingerprinting for applicants in every state.

    Ink Fingerprinting on FD-258 Cards

The FD-258 is the standard fingerprint card used for FBI background checks and accepted by many licensing boards, employers and agencies, especially when a card has to be mailed in or when an applicant is applying from out of state. We roll each finger carefully, take the flat impressions the card requires, and check every block for clarity before we finish. We take the time to get it right the first time, because poorly captured prints are one of the most common reasons for delays.

    Live Scan Electronic Fingerprinting

We offer Live Scan fingerprinting, which captures your prints digitally on a scanner instead of with ink. Many employers, licensing boards and state programs require Live Scan, and digital capture avoids the smudging and rolling problems that get ink cards rejected. When you book, tell us which agency or program the prints are for and send any instructions or reference codes they gave you, so the right submission details are used.

Not sure whether you need Live Scan or an FD-258 card? Your agency’s instructions will say. If they’re unclear, send them to us and we’ll help you read them.

    Common Reasons People Need Fingerprints

    • FBI Identity History Summary (background check): often needed for immigration, visas, adoption, or working and living abroad. If the result needs to be used overseas, we can also help with the apostille.
    • Professional licensing: healthcare (including nursing), finance and securities (including FINRA), real estate, education, and others.
    • Employment screening: for roles with background check requirements.
    • Business and liquor licenses and other regulatory applications.
    • Out-of-state applications: where another state’s board accepts mailed FD-258 cards.

Every agency has its own rules about which card, which fields and which submission method to use. Always check your agency’s instructions first and bring them to the appointment.

    Mobile and On-Site Group Fingerprinting

We bring the equipment to you. That matters for:

    • Businesses onboarding several people: we can fingerprint your team at your office so nobody loses half a day travelling.
    • Schools, healthcare employers and financial firms with recurring screening needs.
    • Individuals with busy schedules: evening and weekend appointments are available.
    • Anyone who can’t easily travel: older applicants, people with mobility issues, or parents with young children.

Group sessions can be combined with I-9 verification and notarization of onboarding documents in the same visit.

    How the Appointment Works

    1. Book. Tell us how many people need fingerprints, what the prints are for, and whether you already have cards from your agency.
    2. Check your requirements. We’ll tell you what to bring. If your agency supplies its own cards, bring them. Otherwise, ask us about cards.
    3. Identification. We confirm each applicant’s identity with a current government-issued photo ID.
    4. Capture. We capture each print by Live Scan or on an FD-258 card, as your agency requires, and check the quality of every print before we finish.
    5. Submission or hand-off. Live Scan prints are submitted electronically. With ink cards, you leave with completed cards to submit as your agency instructs.

    Tips for Clear Fingerprints

    • Wash and dry your hands before the appointment, and avoid heavy lotion that day.
    • Let us know about any cuts, bandages or skin conditions affecting the fingertips.
    • Relax your hands. We’ll do the rolling, and a relaxed finger gives a better print.
    • Fill in the personal-information fields on the card neatly in black ink, or bring the details so we can complete them with you, following your agency’s instructions.

    What to Bring

    • A current, valid government-issued photo ID
    • Your agency’s instructions, and any agency-supplied cards or forms
    • Any reference codes, ORI numbers or reason-for-fingerprinting text the agency gave you

    For Employers and HR Teams

If you’re onboarding several people who need fingerprints, send us the number of applicants, the agency or program the prints are for, and whether you’ll supply the cards. We’ll suggest a schedule that keeps the session moving and avoids pulling people away from work for long. We can run sessions at your office, training site or clinic, at times that work around shifts. Where new hires also need Form I-9 document inspection or onboarding documents notarized, we can handle those in the same visit, so your team deals with one provider instead of three.

For individuals, the process is just as simple: one appointment at your home or office, with completed cards in hand at the end.

    Where We Fingerprint

We serve applicants nationwide. Ink FD-258 cards are accepted by the FBI and by many out-of-state boards by mail, and for Live Scan in other states we help you find the right provider and submission details for your agency. See our nationwide services page.
